-x²+3x+40

a+b=3

ab=40*(-1)=-40

a=-5 and b=8

-x²-5x+8x+40

-x(x+5)+8(x+5)

(-x+8) (x+5)

(8-x) (x+5)

then,if you have to find the value of x;

8-x=0         OR         x+5=0

-x=-8                           x=-5

x=8
