given :-

4x² - 3x - 1

here a = 4, b = -3 and c = -1

D = b² - 4ac

D = (-3)² - 4(4)(-1)

= 9 - (-16)

= 9 + 16

= 25

discriminate (D) is positive, hence it has two real and distinct roots

using quadratic formula we get,

x = (-b ± √D)/2a

➡ x = [-(-3) ± √25)]/2(4)

➡ x = (3 ± 5)/8

➡ x = (3 + 5)/8, x = (3 - 5)/8

➡ x = 8/8, x = -2/8

➡ x = 1, x = -1/4
