8x³ + 12x² - 6x - 1

= 8x³ - 12x² + 24x² + 6x - 12x - 1

= 8x³ - 12x² + 6x - 1 + 24x² - 12x

= (2x)³ + 3(2x)²(-1) + 3(2x)(-1)² + (-1)³ + 12x(2x - 1)

= (2x - 1)³ + 12x(2x - 1)

= (2x - 1)[(2x - 1)² + 12x]

= (2x - 1)(4x² + 8x + 1)

= (2x - 1)(2x + 2 + sqrt(3))(2x + 2 - sqrt(3))

Quadratic polynomial (4x² + 8x + 1) can be factorised using completing the square method.
