Here a^6 and b^6 can be written as (a^2)^3 and (b^2)^3 thus we can apply the identity a^3+b^3= (a+b).(a^2 -ab +b^2)
Thus,
(a^2)^3 + (b^2)^3 = (a^2+b^2).(a^4 +a^2b^2 + b^2).
Remember here we took a^2 as the a in the identity.
