a=5        or    a=3

Use splitting factorization method in this

a^{2} -8a+15

a^{2}-5a-3a+15

a(a-5)-3(a-5)

(a-5)(a-3)

a-5=0    or    a-3=0

a=5        or    a=3

Step 1 : Multiply the coefficient of the first term. Here it is 1.

Step 2: Split the middle term in such a way that it is the sum of middle term and product of third term. Here the numbers are -5 and -3 .

Step 3: Take the common factors and group them and then equate them to zero to get the answer.
