given, 2-a-a² = 0
it can be written as      a²+a-2=0
                                 a²+2a-a-2=0
                                 a(a+2)-1(a+2)=0
                                 (a-1)(a+2)=0
                                 a-1=0  or  a+2=0
                                 a=1  or   a=-2

ananya1: Thank you so much
Mathexpert: The given question has no equation but expression. Why did you find the roots. Its only expression. which needs to be factorised.

2 - a - a²
⇒2 - 2a + a - a²
⇒ 2(1 - a) + a(1 - a)
⇒ (1 - a)(2 + a)
