3x³-x²-12x+4

=> x²(3x-1)-4(3x-1)

=> (x²-4)(3x-1)

=> (x²-2²)(3x-1)

=> (x+2)(x-2)(3x-1)

Remember:

a²-b²=(a+b)(a-b)

Factorise 3 x square minus x minus 4

3x²-x-4.

= 3x² + 3x - 4x - 4.

= 3x(x+1)-4(x+1)

= (x+1)(3x-4)

3x²-x-4 = (x+1)(3x-4)
