Answer :

1) (x + 7)(x + 8)

2) (x + 5)(x + 12)

Working rule :

→ Factorisation using middle term splitting method :

• Write the given quadratic polynomial in the general form ax² + bx + c .

• Now , split the middle term into two terms such that their product is equal to the product of 1st and 3rd term .

Solution :

1) Given quadratic polynomial :

x² + 15x + 56

→ Factorisation using middle term splitting method :

=> x² + 15x + 56

=> x² + 7x + 8x + 56

=> x(x + 7) + 8(x + 7)

=> (x + 7)(x + 8)

2) Given quadratic polynomial :

x² + 19x + 60

→ Factorisation using middle term splitting method :

=> x² + 19x + 60

=> x² + 5x + 12x + 60

=> x(x + 5) + 12(x + 5)

=> (x + 5)(x + 12)
