Required Answer:-

Given To Factorise:

  • c² - 4c - 12
  • y² - 10y + 25

Solution:

Question 1:

We have,

c² - 4c - 12

= c² - 6c + 2c - 12 ( -6 + 2 = -4 and -6 × 2 = -12)

= c(c - 6) + 2(c - 6)

= (c + 2)(c - 6)

Hence, the factorised form of the given quadratic polynomial is (c + 2)(c - 6)

Question 2:

We have,

y² - 10y + 25

= y² - 5y - 5y + 25 (-5 - 5 = -10 and (-5) × (-5) = 25)

= y(y - 5) - 5(y - 5)

= (y - 5)(y - 5)

= (y - 5)²

Hence, the factorised form of the polynomial is (y - 5)²

Answer:

  1. Factorised form - (c + 2)(c - 6)
  2. Factorised form - (y - 5)²
