x^2+11x-42


as its a quadratic equation.

hence its in form

ax^2+bx+c

hence

first multiply 42 with x

now

split middle term such that the sum or difference is equal to 11 but when multiplying it should be equal to 42

x^2+11x-42

x^2+14x-3x-42

x(x+14)-3(x+14)

(x-3)(x+14)
