Step-by-step explanation:

x^2-2x-80=0

x^2-10x+8x-80=0

x(x-10) +8(x-10) =0

(x- 10)(x+8)=0

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

x ^2  −  2  x  - 80

We can Split the Middle Term of this expression to factorise it.

In this technique, if we have to factorise an expression like ax^2 + bx + c  , we need to think of 2 numbers such that:

N1 . N2 = a .c = 1 . (- 80) = -80

And, N1 + N2 = b = -2

After trying out a few numbers, we get N1 = -10 and N2 = -8.

8 . (- 10) = -80 and 8 + (- 10) = -2

= x^2 - 2x - 80 = x^2 - 10x + 8x - 80

= x (x - 10)  + 8 (x - 10)

= (x + 8) ( x - 10)

Hope it helps :)
