 {x}^{2} + x - 20 \\ {x}^{2} + 5x - 4x - 20 \\ x(x + 5) - 4(x + 5) \\ (x + 5)(x - 4)

Note:

The middle term 1X should be sum of 2 numbers and their product must be 20

so ,

when 5x X - 4x = 20

+ 5x - 4x = 1x

Hope this is useful....

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

To factorise the eqn

 {x}^{2} + x - 20

Solution :

 {x}^{2} + x - 20

 {x}^{2} + 5x - 4x - 20

x(x + 5) - 4(x + 5)

(x + 5)(x - 4)
