x^3 - 2x^2 - x + 2

= x^2 (x-2) - 1(x - 2)

= ( x - 2) [ (x)^2 - (1)^2]

= (x-2)(x-1)(x+1)

x^3-2x^2-x+2

(x^3-2x^2)+(-x+2)

x^2(x-2)-1(x-2)

(x-2)(x^2-1)

(x-2)[(x^2)-(1^2)]

(x-2)[(x-1)(x+1)]     { since a^2-b^2=(a-b)(a+b)  }

(x-2)(x-1)(x+1)
