Given:-

  • X²-X-2 = 0

Concept©

Whenever There is a Question on factorization and no value is given after the equation "Always" equate it with zero but if there is a value like for example, a²-a-5 = 3

in here value of equation is equal to 3 so equate it with three.

I am going to use factorization method to solve this equation.

Step By Step Solution :-

=> X²-X-2 = 0

=> Using Middle term Split......

=> X²-2X+X-2 = 0

=> X(X-2) +1(X-2) = 0

=> (X+1) (X-2) = 0

SO, X= -1 OR X= 2

HOPE IT HELPS YOU.....

Answer:

QUESTION :

Factorise x² - x - 2

SOLUTION :

x² - x - 2 = 0

x² - 2x + x - 2 = 0

x(x - 2) + 1(x - 2) = 0

(x - 2) (x + 1) = 0

x - 2 = 0 ; x + 1 = 0

x = 0 + 2 ; x = 0 - 1

x = 2 ; x = -1

Therefore, x = 2 & -1
