Middle Term Method :

This method prescribes an easier way to factorize any quadratic equation. Here, we have to find the product of the coefficient of the squared term x² and of the last term - constant term. Then we have to evaluate the product to get an operated (addition or subtraction) value for the mid-term.

Like, x² + ax + bx + ab

  = x (x + a) + b (x + a)

  = (x + a) (x + b)

Factorization :

Now, x² - x - 6

    = x² - (3 - 2) x - 6

    = x² - 3x + 2x - 6

    = x (x - 3) + 2 (x - 3)

    = (x - 3) (x + 2)

which is the required Factorization.

x^2-x-6
x^2+2x-3x-6[2x-3x=x and -3 × 2 =-6]
x (x+2)-3 (x+2)
(x+2)(x-3)
