x² - 7x + 12

This question can be solved by splitting its middle term such that sum of two numbers be 7 and their products be 12.

Such two numbers are 3 and 4. Their sum is 7 and product is 12

x² - 7x + 12

⇒ x² - 3x - 4x + 12

⇒ x ( x - 3 ) - 4 ( x - 3 )

⇒ ( x - 3 ) ( x - 4 )

Hence, the answer is found.

x² - 7x - 12

= x² -3x - 4x -12

= x(x-3) - 4(x-3)

= (x-4)(x-3)
