 {x}^{2} + ( { x+ 1})^{2}

 {x}^{2}  +  {x}^{2} + 2x + 1

2 {x}^{2}+ 2x + 1

The expression is not factorable with rational numbers.

➩ {x}^{2}  +  {(x + 1)}^{2}  = 85

➩ {x}^{2}  +  {x}^{2}  +  {(1)}^{2}  + 2x = 85

➩2 {x}^{2}  + 2x + 1 = 85

➩2 {x}^{2}  + 2x = 84

➩2 {x}^{2}  + 2x - 84 = 0

➩2( {x}^{2}  + x - 42 = 0

➩ {x}^{2}  + x - 42 = 0

➩ {x}^{2}  + 7x - 6x - 42 = 0

➩x(x + 7) - 6(x + 7) = 0

➩(x - 6)(x + 7) = 0

➩ x =  6 \: and \: x =  - 7

Hope it helps you..!!!
