x^3 + x^2 - 4x - 4
= x^2 (x + 1) - 4(x + 1)
= (x^2 - 4) (x + 1)
= {(x) ^2 - (2)^2} (x + 1)
= (x + 2) (x - 2) (x + 1)
Hence (x+1) (x+2) (x-2) is correct answer.
