= y^3 - 3y^2 - y + 3

= y^2 (y-3) - 1(y-3)

= (y^2 - 1) (y-3)

= (y^2 - 1^2) (y-3)

= (y+1) (y-1) (y-3)

Hope it's helpful to u.
