Heya

y {}^{3}  + y {}^{2}  - y - 1 \\ y {}^{2} (y + 1) - 1(y + 1) \\ (y {}^{2}  - 1)(y + 1) \\  \\ now.. \\ y {}^{2}  - 1 = 0 \\ y {}^{2}  = 1 \\ y =  \sqrt{1}  \\ y = 1 \\ \\  \\  and \\  \\  \\ y + 1 = 0 \\ y =  - 1

Answer:

y3 + y2 - y - 1

 =>  y4 - 1

 => y =  \frac{1}{4}

hence "y" = 1/4
