Solution :

22 - 7xy - 2x²y²

= 22 - (11 - 4)xy - 2x²y²

= 22 - 11xy + 4xy - 2x²y²

= 11 (2 - xy) + 2xy (2 - xy)

= (2 - xy) (11 + 2xy) ,

which is the required factorization.

Method of middle term factorization:

If we take any polynomial (ax² + bx + c), to factorize it using middle term method, we have to find the factors of the product of the 1st term (coefficient of x²) and the 3rd term (constant) and match it using appropriate mathematical operations (addition or subtraction) with the middle term, i.e., coefficient of x. Then, we will take common terms by grouping.
