GIVEN
x}^{2} - 1 - 2y - {y}^{2}
= x^2 - (y^2 + 2y + 1)
= [ x^2 - (y + 1)^2]
As it is in the form of a^2 - b^2
Therefore,
[x + (y + 1)] [x - (y + 1)]
= (x + y + 1) (x - y - 1)
