x^2+x+1/4=0
x^2+(4x+1)/4=0
(4x^2+4x+1)/4=0
(4x^2+2x+2x+1)/4=0
let k=4 the the equation becomes
4x^2+2x+2x+1=0
2x(2x+1)+1(2x+1)=0
(2x+1)(2x+1)=0
x= -1/2
