Let's Start

=> a^4 - 16 = 0

Using a^2 - b^2 = (a + b)(a - b)

=> (a^2 - 4) ( a^2 + 4) = 0

Using the identity again

=> (a - 2)(a + 2)(a^2 + 4) = 0

=> a = 2 or - 2

But a^2 + 4 = 0

=> a^2 = - 4 which is not possible

Thus the two values are 2 and - 2.
