To factorize, it should be checked that the sum of factors of 16 should be equal to 6.

Here, 16 = -2 × 8 and 8 + (-2) = 6

So,

x^2 + 6x – 16 =0

=> x^2 – 2x + 8x – 16=0

=> x(x – 2) + 8(x – 2)=0

=> (x + 8) (x – 2)=0

=>x+8=0

=> x= -8

=> x-2=0

=>x=2

Hence,

x^2 + 6x – 16 = (x + 8) (x – 2)
