Factorization By Middle Term Distribution Method :-

=> x² - 4x - 5

=> x² - 5x + x - 5

=> x (x - 5) + 1 (x - 5)

=> (x - 5) (x + 1)

So, the answer is \underline{\text{(x - 5) (x + 1)}}

\underline{\text{Note :-}} While splitting the middle term, we should keep in mind that the sum of splitted terms should be equal to middle term and their product should be equal to the product of 1st & 3rd term.

Here, - 5x & x are the splitted terms.

It's sum, i.e. -5 + x = -4 , which is equal to middle term that is (-4).

Also, it's product, i.e. - 5x × x = 5x², which is equal to the multiplication of first & last term which are x² & -5.

So, the answer is \underline{\text{(x - 5) (x + 1)}}.
