Answer:

 {y }^{2}  - 13y + 40 \\  {y }^{2} - 8y - 5y + 40 \\ y(y - 8) + 5(y - 8)  \\( y + 5)(y - 8)

Answer:

y^2 - 13y + 40 (-5) + (-8) = -13

(-5) × (-8) = 13

= y^2 - 5y -8y + 40 = 0

= y( y - 5 ) - 8 ( y - 5 ) = 0

= (y - 5 ) (y - 8 ) = 0

y = 5 & y = 8

therefore y = 5,8
