Quadratic equations:

An equation which has the highest degree or of order 2 is named as quadratic equations

=> The equation is of the form:

P (x) = ax^2 + bx + c =0

Usually, an quadratic equation will have at least one real root. ( mostly it will have two solutions).

Factorising quadratic equations

Let me take an example,

p (x)= x^2 + 2 x + 3 =0 ---- This is an quadratic equation.

Now, we will factorise this equation

There are two methods to find the roots of the equation;

1) x^2 + 2 x + 3 =0

Product of the roots= 3

Sum of the roots = 2

( 1 ,3 )

x^2 + x + 3 x + 3 =0

lets take x ( common)

x (x + 1) + 3 ( x +1 ) =0

(x + 3)( x + 1 ) =0

=> x = -3 ; - 1

The other way is by using an formula:

x = - b + root of b^2 - 4ac

-

-------------------------------

2 a
