Thanks for not asking about “effective rainfall” which is much more complicated.

The most important factor influencing rainfall is evaporation, which is the beginning of the cycle itself. The water vapor forms into clouds which drop their moisture and start the whole cycle over again.

Main factor is atmospheric temperature.

Pressure is also a factor.

Wind speed and direction are two other important factors that determines the type, occurrence and amount of precipitation. Also the characteristics of particular land influence the rainfall.

Mountains, plateaus, forests all of these have influence in rainfall.
