       Factors affecting rate of a reaction

consider a reaction ,

       \bold{\mathff{A+B \longrightarrow\:Products}}

      The rate of a reaction is given by the expression,

 \bold{\mathff{Rate = k[A]^{x}[B]^{y}}} where x and y may or may not equal to number of moles respectively.

Therefore, factors affecting rate,

  • Concentration of reactants : The amount of reactants present in a reaction.
  • Surface area of reactants : The area of reacting items
  • Effect of temperature : Temperature can increase or decrease the rate according to the conditions of reaction ie, endothermic or exothermic
  • Presence of catalyst : Catalyst increases the rate (usually) . If it decreases , it is known as inhibitor
  • Presence of light : The light can act as a source of energy as well as a catalyst.
