Factors affecting rate of a reaction
consider a reaction ,
The rate of a reaction is given by the expression,
where x and y may or may not equal to number of moles respectively.
Therefore, factors affecting rate,
- Concentration of reactants : The amount of reactants present in a reaction.
- Surface area of reactants : The area of reacting items
- Effect of temperature : Temperature can increase or decrease the rate according to the conditions of reaction ie, endothermic or exothermic
- Presence of catalyst : Catalyst increases the rate (usually) . If it decreases , it is known as inhibitor
- Presence of light : The light can act as a source of energy as well as a catalyst.
