Factors affecting electronegativity:

1.Size:

  • It decreases with the increase in size and increases with the decrease in size.

Example:

Flourrine more electronegative than chlorine .

Nuclear charge:

electronegativity increases with increasing nuclear charge.

screening effect:

  • increase in number of inner electrons tends to decrease the electronegativity.

ANSWER

FACTORS GOVERNING ELECTRONEGATIVITY

  1. Size - Smaller the size, more the electronegativity.
  2. Non-Metallic Character - Greater the non metallic character, more the electronegativity.
  3. No. of electron shared - More the no. of electron shared, less the electronegativity.
