Factors responsible for ecosystem degradation are as follows:

  • Deforestation: It is cutting down of trees and removing forests for making land available for cultivation and for residential areas, due to deforestation it increases CO₂ in the environment and due to this greenhouse effect is increasing.
  • Burning of fossil fuels: when fossil fuels are burned CO2 is emitted in a very large amount and due to this there is depletion of the ozone layer thus decreasing environmental quality.
  • Industrialization: Due to the rapid increase in demand for products it creates a huge pressure on industries to increase their production and to set up new industries thus industrial pollution increases.
  • Overpopulation: Due to rapid growth in population it creates more demand for food, clothes, and shelter and thus creates more strain on natural resources, which results in the degradation of our environment.
