1. Economic exploitation of India: India's wealth was totally drained by British by imposing taxes on traders and merchants and also by giving the loan at high rates of interest.
2. Repressive policies of Lord Lytton: Policies such as vernacular press act which abolished the freedom of the press and Indian Arms Act which made it an offense for Indians to use weapons without license.
3. Socio-Religious reform movements: Introduction of Brahmo Samaj, Arya Samaj etc,., strengthened the growth of nationalism.
4. Role of the press: Press the main source to know the plans of cunning British in those days which plays a vital role in strengthening the growth of nationalism.
