Tourists are hesitant to come to visit India in greater numbers because of the dirt and garbage that is strewn around. Let us hope we get around the problem with the newly launched Swatchh Bharat campaign.
The other problem that keeps tourists away is the safety of women. In cities and towns, especially in the northern and eastern parts of the country, the Governments must wake up and redress this problem.
Foreign tourists are easy prey to dishonest people, who dupe them by hanging around places of tourist interest. This is disconcerting and must be addressed by the Government.
Lack of proper facilities for stay and convenience of transportation are the other areas that cause tourists much discomfort. Good budget hotels for stay and a better transportation mechanism at the centres of tourist attraction must be encouraged to come up and flourish.
For tourists that travel long distances by road, motels must be encouraged to come up alongside highways. These would not only provide with light refreshments and beverages suited to foreign tourists' palates, but also have toilets and baths that is so necessary when one travels long distances without a break.
