In the context of a factory producing aluminium saucepans, the cheapest raw material to transport would be plastic from another factory. Since this is a subsidiary factory, it can be located at close proximity to the saucepan factory and hence transportation costs can be reduced. Whereas aluminium must be sourced from its source which can be very far away. Moreover aluminium or bauxite is a heavy metal.
