Failure of testes to descend into the ‘scrotal sac’ is known as cryptorchidism. Usually within the three months after birth, the testis descends into the ‘scrotum’. However, sometimes either one or both the testes fail to descend into the ‘scrotum’ from the abdomen.

The most common symptom of this phenomenon is sterility. In order for sperms to be produced, it requires a temperature that is few degrees less than the ‘body temperature’ and which is provided by the scrotum as it is placed away from the ‘body’.

When the testes fail to descend, they are exposed to high body temperature at which sperms fail to be formed in quantity and quality and a person is usually sterile.
