Famous Priest Well Puzzle
An old priest fell on a bottom of the well of a church. The well is 20 inches deep. At day time, the old priest climbs 5-inches but when at dark he slip back 4 inches. In how many days priest will come out of the well ?

In 15-days, he will climb 15-inch and when he climbs 5 inch more, he will be out of the well :-)

The priest will take 16 days to come out of the Well.

GIVEN

Depth of the well = 20 inches.

The height the priest can climb = 5-inches.

Depth the priest slips = 4-inches.

TO FIND

Days took by the priest to come out of the well.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows -

The total depth of the well = 20 inches.

The height of the well, the priest can climb during the day. = 5

Depth of the well the priest slips at night = 4 inches.

This means,

The resultant height of the well, the priest can climb each day = 1 inch.

The height of the well climbed in 15 days = 15 inches.

On the 16th day- The priest will climb another 5 inches and come off the well.

Hence, The priest will take 16 days to come out of the Well.
