Fleming's left-hand rule is used for electric motors, while Fleming's right-hand rule is used for electric generators.
FLEMING'S LEFT HAND RULE
- Hold out your left hand with the forefinger, second finger and thumb at the right angle to one another.
- If the forefinger represents the direction of the field and the second finger represents that of the current, then thumb gives the direction of the force.
FLEMING'S RIGHT HAND RULE
- Fleming's right-hand rule gives which direction the current flows.
- The right hand is held with the thumb, index finger and middle finger mutually perpendicular to each other (at right angles), as shown in the diagram.
- The thumb is pointed in the direction of the motion of the conductor relative to the magnetic field.
