Step-by-step explanation:

Let Farrah’s money be F.

Let Pearl’s money be P.

P=3F: Pearl has 3 times as much money as Farrah.

P+F=$672: together they have $672.

Substitute 3F for P, since they are the same thing.

3F+F=$672: still the amount they have together.

4F=$672. You can add like things to find out how many like things there are in total. Still the same amount

F=$672/4. We can divide two things that are equal to each other by the same thing, and get a pair of results that are also equal to each other. Here, we wanted to know how much F was, so we divided 4F/4, just had to do it to $672 as well.

F=$168. Just math there. Now we know how much F is.

Farrah has $143, that’s the answer to your question, in case you forgot, that’s what F stood for.

Checking our work

If Farrah has $168, then Pearl must have $672–$168=$504

$168*3 is three times what Farrah has… $168*3=$504

Seems legit
