Leguminous plants such as peas and beans have Rhizobium. It is a bacterium which resides in their root nodules. It helps in fixing the atmospheric nitrogen and transforms it into nitrates and nitrites which are absorbed by the plants. After harvesting the roots are left in the soil, in order to replenish the nitrogen content of the soil.
