Fast wind can lift off a roof from a house because when air moves parallel to the roof of house, according to Bernoulli's principle , pressure above the roof surface is less than the pressure inside roof. Hence high pressure is created inside roof and as air moves from high pressure region to low pressure, it blows the roof.
