Let the daughter age be x

The father age be (20 - x) years

5 year's ago :

Daughter age = x - 5 years

Father age = 20 - x - 5 years

Father age = 15 - x years

Now,

= 15 -x = 3(x - 5)

= 15 - x = 3x - 15

= -x - 3x = -15 - 15

= -4x = -30

= x = -30/-4

= x = 7.5 years ans.
