Let the present age of daughter be x

then the age of her father will be x + 24

after 4 years
age of daughter = X + 4

age of her father = X + 24 + 4

= X + 28

so according to the condition

3 x age of daughter = age of father

3 ( X + 4 ) = ( X + 28 )

3x + 12 = X + 28

3x - x = 28 - 12

2x = 16

X = 16/2

X = 8

so their present ages will be

age of daughter = X = 8 years

age of father = X + 24

= 8 + 24

= 32 years

hope this helps

✓QUESTION✓ :

✓Father is 24 years older than his daughter .in 4 years,he will be thrice as old as his daughter.find their present ages✓

✓SOLUTION✓ :

I) => x = 24 + y

=> x - y = 24 (i) equation.............

ii) => x + 4 = 3( 24 + y + 4 )

=> x + 4 = 3( 28 + y )

=> x + 4 = 84 + 3y

=> x - 3y = 84 - 4

=> x - 3y = 80 (ii) equation..............

✓BY USING ELIMINATION METHOD✓

 \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \bf{x - y = 24} \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \bf{x - 3y = 80} \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: - \: \: + \: \: \: \: \: \: - \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: - - - - - - - \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \bf{2y \: = -56 }
=> Y =- 56/2 = - 28

then , putting this value of y into the first equation.

=> x - y = 24

=> x - 28 = 24

=> x = 24 + 28

=> x = 52

we can say the ages of father and daughter

✓Father = X = 52 years (appox)✓

✓Daughter = Y = 28 years (appox)✓
