Let son's present age be x

Given present age of father = 24 + x

After 4 yrs son = x + 4
Given father will be 3(x + 4)

But father's age after 4 years should be
( 24 + x) + 4
= 28 + x

This means
$3(x + 4) = 28 + x \\ = > 3x + 12 = 28 + x \\ = > 3x - x = 28 - 12 \\ = > 2x = 16 \\ = > x = 16 \div 2 \\ = > x = 8$
So son's age = 8

Father's age = 24 + 8 = 32
