let the age of the father be x age of the son be y

father is aged three times more than his son

x = 3y

after eight years

age of father X + 8

age of sun Y + 8

after eight years the father would be 2.5 the age of his son

x + 8 = 5(y + 8)/2

2(x+8) = 5(y +8)

2x + 16 = 5y + 40

2x = 5y + 24

2 * 3y = 5y + 24. ( x = 3y)

y = 24

x = 3y

x = 3*24

x = 72

age of father is equal to 72

age of son equals to 24
