Two years ago son's age= x-2.

His Father's age at that time = 3(x-2).

Present age of Father = 3x-6+2=3x-4

Two years hence father's age=3x-4+2=3x-2.

Two years hence son's age = x+2.

Given :-5*(x+2)=2*(3x-2)

5x + 10= 6x - 4

10+4=6x-5x

14=x

SON'S PRESENT AGE : 14 years.

FATHER'S PTESENT AGE: 38 years.

To Find :

• Their Present Ages.

Solution :

Suppose father's age be x and son's age y.

Then,

x + y = 49 .....( i )

5 years ago :

• Father's age = ( x–5 )

• Son's Age = ( y–5 )

According to question :

2 ( y–5 ) = ( x–5 )

2y–10 = x–5

2y–x = 5

–x + 2y = 5 .....( ii )

Add ( i ) and ( ii ) :

3y = 54

y = 18

Putting The Value Of y in ( i )

x + 18 = 49

x = 31

Hence,

Father's Age x = 31 years.

Son's Age y = 18 years.

Verification :

Father's age + Son's age = 49

31 years + 18 years = 49 years.

Verified.
