let Father’s present age = x

Ages of the two sons = m & n

The sum of the ages of the sons = m+n = a

According to the question, father’s age is three times the sum of ages of his two sons.

=> x =3a — (1)

After five years, father’s age is x+5, and his sons’ ages are m+5 and n+5.

According to the question, father’s age is two times the sum of the ages of his two sons.

=> x+5 = 2(m+5+n+5)

=> x+5 = 2(m+n+10)

=> x+5 = 2(a+10)

=> 3a+5 = 2a+20 [From Eq1]

=> a = 15

Putting in Eq1, x = 3(15) = 45

Therefore, father’s age is 45 years.
