let the son age be = x

father age be = 3x

5 years ago :

son age = x-5

father age = 3x-5

so , 3x-5 + x - 5 = 70

4x = 70 + 5 + 5

4x = 80

x = 80 divided y 4

x=20

Present age of son = x = 20

present age of father = 3x = 60

Age of son 5 years ago = x-5 = 20-5 = 15

Age of father 5 years ago = 3x - 5 = 60 - 5 = 55

Verification :

According to question ,

5 years back , sum of father and son 's age = 70

so , father age 5 years back = 55

son age 5 years back = 15

55 + 15 = 70

hence verified!
