Answer:

Let present age of the son is x years.

Then the age of the father is 3x years.

Then according to the problem we get,

3x−4=4(x−4)

or, 4x−3x=16−4

x=12.

So the son's age is 12 years and that of the father is 12×3=36 years.

Step-by-step explanation:

Step-by-step explanation:let's age of son =x

Step-by-step explanation:let's age of son =x age of father= 3x

Step-by-step explanation:let's age of son =x age of father= 3xaccording to ques.

age of father 4 years ago=(3x-4)

age of son 4 years ago=(x-4)

3x-4=4(x-4)

3x-4=4(x-4) 3x-4=4x-16

3x-4=4(x-4) 3x-4=4x-16 3x-4x= -16+4

3x-4=4(x-4) 3x-4=4x-16 3x-4x= -16+4 -x = -12

3x-4=4(x-4) 3x-4=4x-16 3x-4x= -16+4 -x = -12 x=4

age of son=12 years

age of father= 12*4= 48 years
