Answer:

The Favourable conditions for the formation of ionic bond are as follows:

(For Cation Formation)

1. Ionisation potential of metal atom should be low.

2. Charge on cation should be low.

Example: Among Na+, Mg+2 & Al+3 ions, Na+ will be formed easily.

3. Size of the cation should be large.

Example: Among Na+, K+, Rb+ and Cs+ ions, Cs+ ion will be formed easily.

(For Anion Formation)

1. The electron affinity (or) electronegativity of the non-metal should be more.

2. Charge on the anion should be less

Example: Among F- , Cl- , Br- and I- Ions, the F- ion will be formed easily.

3. Large Cation and small Anion favour ionic bond formation.
